Maureen FitzSimons's early accomplishments in the performing arts, that we now know to be Maureen O'Hara, would certainly qualify her for her place in the "child prodigy" category. For a young Irish girl with talented parents and extended families, these qualities were naturally. Maureen was born in Ranelagh which was a suburb in Dublin in Ireland on the 17th of August 1920. Marguerita L. FitzSimons made a name for herself with her contralto. The father of her, Charles FitzSimons, managed the business of Dublin and was also the owner of the famous Irish football team "The Shamrock Rovers." Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen enjoyed playing sporting games in her youth and was a pro in athletics. Her talent for performing perfectly complemented her passion for sport. It was evident when she won each Feis for drama and theater that Ireland had to offer. As she reached the age of 14 the Abbey Theater accepted her and permitted her to pursue her dream in classical theater as well as singing opera.
